Roads in Saint Lucia are generally of a decent standard, especially on roads connecting main towns. The quality of surfaces elsewhere tends to be much poorer, however. Bus services cover the island and offer cheap, reliable services to many destinations. Mini vans also operate as public transport and are by far the most popular way of getting around. Taxis work in and around all towns and can provide moderately priced travel without the cramped, uncomfortable nature of buses. There are helicopter flights available between points on the island. A number of passenger ships and ferries operate from many places throughout the island, and it is easy to charter a boat for passage.
